Miranda July has long been one of my most favourite people, she's a kook - a total kook. She writes on stoves for goodness sake!
And as all good kooks do, Miranda has generated a fair amount of interest in herself over the past ten years as a film maker, writer, installation artist and all other titles you can come up with that fall under the umbrella term "creative". But Miranda has done something even cooler than most kooks - she has turned the spotlight back onto the public inviting her followers participate in her rise to cult fame.
Through her long-running project Learning to Love You More, Miranda invites people to participate in creative projects and share them with the world. The result of this experiment is a compilation of more than 8000 artworks submitted by people of all ages from all corners of the earth. Screenings of these submissions have taken place in esteemed venues such as the Whitney Museum in NYC, Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, Aurora Picture Show in Houston, TX, The Seattle Art Museum in Seattle, WA, the Wattis Institute in San Francisco CA (among others).
